review 1: Way, way better then "Imposters". "Defector" was more engaging and it held my attention better.FEA isn't what it seems. Tessa is just starting to learn that. In the first book, she was really naive and now, she has to get over it. When her enemy Kate tells her something huge about someone Tessa really cares about, it is like the first time she has experienced betrayal. Then her friend Holly goes missing and the shit hits the fan. Tessa has to figure out what she is going to do when she realizes that the FEA's agenda doesn't mirror her own.We learn a lot more about Tessa's past in "Defector". She goes hunting for answers when she learns something incredible about her lineage. Alec and Tessa had hinted about their pasts, saying that they weren't exactly the greatest ones. Bu... moret, in "Defector", we see just how bad Tessa's past was.Winnacker kept the lovey-doveyness to a minimum in this novel. Thank god. That was one of the things that I hated the most about "Imposters". I couldn't deal with Tessa's major crush on Alec. The ending was intense. Seriously, I can't believe I didn't see it coming. It also shows us that what everyone has been telling Tessa is true and unfortunately, it looks like you can't trust anyone. The plot moved a lot fast too. I think it was because Tessa wasn't taken what the FEA were telling her. It also helped that there was something new to discover about her at every turn. Also, there is a little love triangle action. Tessa also loses a little bit of her naiveness and comes to learn that you can't really trust anyone.Definitely a step up from "Imposters". I'm glad that I did read this book. I can't wait to see what happens in the next book.
review 2: Rating: 4/5Defector is the second book in Tessa's story (and hopefully there will be a next one). This time around there is not big murder mystery for Tessa to solve, instead things take a very different turn. Tessa is happy with her life after her first mission is over. She is back at FEA headquarters, she and Alec are finally together and she is back with her best friend Holly. But during her second mission Holly gets kidnapped and Tessa knows that they took the wrong person, because they were after her. Everyone believes that the organization behind the attack is Abel's Army, and their leader wants Tessa. But after Tessa finds out the secrets that the people closer to her were keeping from her she decides to take matters in her own hands and leaves FEA to go looking for Holly. This was a crazy journey. There was no huge mystery to solve this time, but I was really happy to follow Tessa in her mission to save her BFF. I was also really glad with the one helping her along this journey. This is the new couple I am shipping. But as always my one and true love in this series is Tessa. She is an amazing MC. She is struggling with what to follow, her heart or her mind and I am glad that she is usually picking her mind and that the times she follows her heart she realizes that she can't keep doing so. Finally, I have to say a few words about that ending! OMG! What the F happened. I was on board with Tessa until that very last chapter. Why girl? Why? Still, I am glad she thought it through, even though I don't agree with her decision. I can't wait to see what turn things will take in the next book. less
