review 1: Forest is a bastard shape-shifter/elf and is cast from her home in Regia. When her boss gives her a secret mission to bring a long lost vampire prince across a warzone to safety, she must put aside all the prejudices she has against vampires from a traumatic event in her childhood and face her fears. As, weeks pass by in the forest, she can't help but notice the growing attachment to the prince but this attachment...can be the demise of both of them.I thought it was quite a pleasant read. The word building and character development are great. The story was exhilarating. Action packed and filled with emotion, Jayne captures the reader's attention from the start to the end. I really love the mate-for-life concept. I think that we humans would need that nowadays. I still don... more't really understand what Netriet has to do in this story. That character was just useless and random. I found myself liking the banter between Forest and Syrus however I do think that Syrus does talk a little like teenager for a prince/mage/master Blood Katan. Overall, not bad...not bad at all.4.5 stars
review 2: 3.5 starsThe book for me was fantastic for the first 70-80 pages or so, I really did enjoy Forest's character towards the beginning of the book- and I thought that her being half elf and half Shapeshifter was a pretty unique change from the usual characters which dominate Fae books these days. Although I do generally prefer the male lead characters in the books I read to be a bit more of the rough-and-tough kind of guy, I found that Syrus' sense of humor made me forgive for his lack of, well, balls. Even then I felt that for a vampire prince his character was rather immature and not very awe-inspiring. There were a few things that took this book down from a potential 5-star book, to my rating of 3.5 stars. One was Forest's knack to get angry pretty quickly at things that really did not need to become a life-threatening situation for poor Syrus, it made her seem a little less "bad-ass" to me. The other thing was the sudden explosion of instalove. For the first part of the book the continuous arguing between Forest and Syrus was a little more realistic, given Forest's deep hate of all things vampire- and even so, I felt that her first meeting and initial reaction to Syrus was not nearly the reaction I would expect from someone with such a deep hatred for vampires. It continued on with the bickering and sexual tension, and then all of a sudden there was this overwhelming romance between Forest and Syrus- it felt as if there was no build up from their hate-love relationship to a full-on, undying love. Other than that, I really did enjoy Tenaya Jayne's style of writing and the world full of different creatures which she presented through this book. less

She didn't strike me as a professional... Just childish and quick to make a scene.
