review 1: Very interesting book in the world of fantasy. It somewhat uses religion as a setting... but that's not what it is about. The main setting is Woerld, a sort of Purgatory, between Earth and Hell, shielding us and Heaven from the depredations of the fallen angels. It is a rather... evil place. People die all the time. Little hope. Little happiness. Which makes what there is all that more valuable. Occasionally, specially chosen human children are pulled through to act as the... defense force... for Woerld. And this story is about an old conflict between a boy, growing into a man and seeking to leave his twin sister behind and find new love. In Woerld. Of course, it is much more dark and depressing than usual, but it is a classic story of jealousy for affection between a sibl... moreing and a lover. And it is a rich story. I would love to read more. And I'm not entirely sure where it is going.
review 2: c2011: Uh oh...I thought when I got to the second chapter that involved a young brother and sister. Another synopsis that did not reveal that this was a YA novel. Fortunately, I continued reading and I am glad that I did. Its a strange mix of a novel but an interesting world with well developed characters. It reads as a first in a series but it doesn't specifically state that there is another book based in the same world. I would recommend to those of the normal crew that feel like something slightly different. less

Didn't realize it was dark fantasy (which is not a genre I enjoy). DNF
