review 1: The Last Bridge is about survival of a woman and family with many injustices mentally and physical. This includes the guilt and how we accept the victims and perpetrators of these indignities as a society. Whether you turn your head and ignore or step up to make a change.I must say this is not a book I would have chosen on my own to read. It was chosen by the book club I am a participant in. But it was superbly written and hit emotions in ways I would rather not be aware of and made me think way into the evening after I sat it down on the table. Terri Coyne is going to be an author to read in the future and look forward. She kept the story going and the reader riveted even when you did not like what the main characters were going through.

... moreh the first sentence was a real attention-getter, "Two days after my father had a massive stroke, my mother shot herself in the head," the rest of the book didn't live up to my expectations. It's the tale of a REALLY dysfunctional family and one grown daughter's attempts to come to terms with the hell of her childhood. Though I pitied her (frankly, I pitied nearly everyone anywhere near this family), I just could not LIKE her, and it's really hard to read a novel about a leading character that you just don't like. Though the author writes well, the dreary story rates no more than 2.5 stars from me. less

in the long run a bit of a Lifetime movie of a book with occasional flashes of really great writing.

Good quick read. It's not an uplifting story but makes you appreciate Kate what's good in your life.

A great flawed character.
