review 1: I picked up a copy of this title doing my usual browsing. I thought the plot was interesting since it referenced a blogger who was being stalked by someone that seemed bent on exacting some form of unknown revenge. What I got instead was so much more, I am writing this with a super full heart and an inability to put into words just how many of the themes struck "REALLY" close to home for this reader. The story follows Cathy Cramer, it picks up two years after the murder of her fiancé. She is doing what has worked well for her after losing her faith in the justice system she was compelled to protect, now she is a crime blogger with an enormous following. She hit pay dirt with her legal knowledge and research in each of the cases that she covers, delving deeper than mo... morest seemed capable of accomplishing where these unique cases were concerned. The matter at hand is that now someone seems to be targeting her for the very work that she has found a way to hide herself within. The story begins slow for those of you who are adrenaline junkies with minimal patience to wait for the action. The author is excellent and building up the perspectives and vantage points for each of the characters as she tells the main story through a number of character arcs. The turbulent issues that each of the people in Cathy's life are facing coupled with the demons that continue to haunt them in their past make for a very enjoyable read. I personally appreciated the Christian themes that were highlighted in the book, because it gave more depth to the situation. It also provided a bit of perspective on very real and serious Christian topics that are highly relevant for those that are regular churchgoers. I felt that the authors ability to spin the story lend itself to the necessity to read the story through to the end. The candid author notes at the back even got my attention. Not to give away any spoilers but while I had the kiler narrowed down to about 2 suspects, the actual perp, doesn't become clear until the twist is inserted with good measure. I of course, (insert my slow bow here) was correct in my suspect, but I have a very strong feeling that my secondary suspect will prove himself to be guilty in due course, like in the next installment, who knows but when I am done here I am definitely checking into that. So out of a possible 5 stars I am giving Truth Stained Lies a 5. Mrs. Blackstock, thank you so much for that engaging tale. Happy Reading to all.
review 2: This i rate as a 3.5. There was nothing particularly wrong with the book, i just felt like the author could have made the story more suspenseful or at least kept the reader guessing longer. There were so many opportunities to have put some more twists or turns into the plot, but there just wasn't any. Over all, a quick, simple read and i was pleased with the outcome! And, as always, i really appreciate the christian ties and a "clean" read. less
