review 2: I read this in honor of the 50th anniversary of the assassination of JFK in Dallas. This book started in August with the death of his son, Patrick and the rekindling of the flame of passion between Jackie and JFK and ended in Dallas. The book covered the main obsessions of his presidency at this point in time, namely, Viet Nam (his eagerness to g
... moreet out), the Diem problem, Cuba and Castro, Russia, Lyndon and the Bobby Baker affair, the test ban treaty (Russia), Civil Rights/the South and the space race issue.I can see why certain elements (right wing)felt Kennedy was too easy and too friendly with the Communists and felt he was appeasing them. Also, the explosive issue of civil rights down in the segregated South made lots of folks down there VERY unhappy. So the whisper campaign goes on about who REALLY killed JFK........I intend to read more on this subject. Also, like Lincoln, I feel JFK is still loved in certain circles today because he appealed to our better natures........I read this as a book, not audio.....I don't think I could concentrate long enough to follow an audio book. less
