review 1: Ok, so remember how I said that I liked that the romance was slow? Well, I take it back. This has been drawn out too long and i need to know! I feel like Shreffler unnecessarily drags out the books. I would love to see more of Caprion and what goes on. I honestly thought this would be the last book, so i was really confused by the ending (by the way, it's October, where's book 4!?). I also would love to see more development of Sora and her fighting abilities and I'm incredibly excited to see her head back to the noble life in book 4 in order to uncover the mysteries of getting rid of the Dark God. And one last thing, the art work? I'm not really a fan. I don't know. The characters don't look at all like what I imagined...
review 2: 4.5 stars. I definitely see m
... moreyself rereading the series by the time Ferran's Map is out. Why dock half a star? The writing is, at times, overly dramatic. For example, it is ok to have a piece of fruit without describing the sensation of eating it each time. I'm enthralled by the story enough to get over it quickly, though. Second, if you do not like spoilers, avoid the author's Facebook page. In particular, there is a picture that reminds her of Cerastes and Krait. If you see this in between reading Viper's Creed and Volcrian's Hunt like I did, be prepared for Crash's people to lose some of their mystery. It isn't that I didn't have my own (correct) suspicions, but I so absolutely love the gradual reveals and unfoldings of these characters, that it was a real slap in the face. In fact, I had just downloaded books 3 and 4 moments after finishing book 2 and my enthusiasm to read on evaporated. It took me weeks to pick it back up again. Of course once I did, those are, literally, my only two complaints. I adore Burn, and Crash, and Sora (though my attachment to her is probably strongly connected to my attachment to a certain friendly neighborhood Viper). I'm not really sure what else to rave about. I could reiterate the lazily unfurling character development - and my love for it. The relief of a plot that isn't wholly obvious within pages of starting or that the whole series is actually the same plot instead of new drama each time... also wonderful. I also like the variety of feelings for the side or minor characters, be it pity, annoyance, indifference, disdain, curiosity - normally a story isn't varied enough itself to stir up a selection like that. The wanting and uncertainty are, and I will take my own moment to be overly dramatic, exquisite. I guess for the most part this is really just my kind of series. less
