review 1: Those who know me know that I love a good beer, and a good beer story. The history of craft beer in America is full of such stories, and it's fun to stumble upon some of your favorites while reading this book. That said, I wish it had been a little shorter, it feels like it could have used tighter editing and some trimming here and there. Also, I think it would have been a more fun read if it had a little more humor to it. For a book about the joys of beer, it could be a bit dry at times.
review 2: The story of craft beer in America was compelling, but the writing was repetitive, even monotonous. Whoever edited this book did a lousy job -- the reader was repeatedly reminded of the role of the Interstate Highway System, the failure of Germany beer purity law to
... moreinclude yeast, the hoppiness of West Coast ales, and every chapter referenced the monotony of "Big Beer." The book was pretty well-researched, although it favored the East and West Coasts over the Midwest (I'm thinking of Baderbrau, a Chicago-area beer around since the mid-1980s). I did enjoy learning the story behind some of the beers I drink, but this book could have been about half as long. less
