review 1: I love sandwiches, and this? This is a MUST-HAVE for anyone who believes sandwiches are awesome enough to be great meals. There are five chapters in this book.1- Breakfast Sandwiches.2- Cool Sandwiches.3- Warm Sandwiches. MY FAVORITE SECTION.4- Sweet Sandwiches (basically, dessert).5- Pantry (stuff you should have!)I can't wait to try some of these. I mean, roasted turkey with avocado, bacon, balsamic onion marmalade, and mayonnaise? YUM. Give me some of THAT.
review 2: I have been a big fan of the Gourmet's Cookbook Club since it's inception, and this choice is no exception to that rule. Joel is a huge fan of the sandwich, and I have perused a number of sandwich books that preceded this one in publication--one, the Nancy Silverton sandwich book was a disappoi... morentment--I love her bread book, her bakery and her restaurant. This book is by far the best I have seen to date--it has excellent and inventive combinations of ingredients, as well as recipes for sauces, confits, and melanges that are outstanding. So if you are in love with the sandwich as an art form, rather than as a fast way to use up leftovers, this is the book for you. less
