review 1: Tomie dePaola is quickly becoming a household favorite. He's a little lengthy for my preschoolers, however, my 5 yr old loves him. dePaola is educational and enjoyable to read. The illustrations have a unique style all their own that even I enjoy while reading. This one was about Jesus's birth told by a bunch of colorful birds. The pictures were just beautiful and told the story of Jesus in a simple and easy way to understand. This would be a great holiday book for believers. A great educational read for any child as well. (Educational in that they can learn more about the Bible, one of the most read books in history, as well as an item that many wars have been fought over)
review 2: Tomie dePaola's latest book offers a fresh look at the first Christma
... mores. He takes the town of Bethlehem and offers a bird's eye view of the strange happenings. This book is a fun companion piece to Luke's story in the New Testament.Early literacy can easily be added to this holiday tale. Readers can identify colors as well as pairs of birds. A sequencing activity or flannel board pieces could also be created for this story.Reviewed from a library copy. less

Wanted to know about what types of birds were in Bethlehem. Remember title but not content.

This was just an okay book for me. I like a bit more animation in the illustrations...
