review 1: This book couldn't decide if it wanted to be a murder mystery or a novel about the handling of an upcoming natural disaster. I believe if it had taken one track or another, it would have been a stronger novel. The main character, Cassie Oldfield, was fleshed out reasonably well enough but I just didn't feel that I got to know the rest of the characters. As a result, it was therefore somewhat difficult to care too much about them. Some of the geological and volcanic bits of science incorporated were fairly interesting. The dialog among the characters seemed stilted and the numerous grammatical errors were quite annoying. This book used adverbs liberally and I don't think I found one grammatically correct example of the use of an adverb in the entire book. Another thin... moreg that annoyed me was the way A.M. was always spelled "ayem." I feel the premise was fairly good but I was not particularly impressed with its execution.
review 2: One of the free Kindle books identified by "Ereader News Today" that looked interesting. This one took me quite a while to read for multiple reasons. One being that I had trouble truly getting engrossed in it. It was okay but I can't say that I really enjoyed it. I kept thinking it was almost over and the look to see that I was still a long way from finishing. Some parts were good. I really enjoyed the geology parts where they tried to solve the murders by the geology associated with the dead person but the storyline rather drug on. Absolutely no desire to ever read again. less
