review 1: I absolutely loved this book. It's brilliant. The storyline is so intricate and clever, and must have taken so much planning to get right with all the switching to and fro from the past to the present. There is one twist after the other, very surprising, and always keeping the tension and suspense just right. When we first meet Naomi Stone, she has just got married at the age of nineteen to Nathan, a man who is slightly older. They haven't been together long, but everything seems perfect until Naomi is abducted on her wedding night. Who is the strange man who is keeping her hostage, what does he want from her, and will she ever get away? We find out the answer to these questions and more in this tense thriller. The action is interspersed with flashbacks to Naomi's life bef... moreore she met Nathan, while she is at music college, and the time leading up to the fateful wedding day. Full of realistic and multidimensional characters, like Annabel, Naomi's twin. Although twins, the girls have little in common. Naomi's two best friends, Siobhan and Lorie, are also very different. Nathan and Dan, although brothers, again could not be less alike. Naomi's mother Camilla is overbearing, wanting to control her daughters' lives. There is an underlying theme of people and things not being what they seem.Other themes include family relationships, particularly dysfunctional families; betrayal; revenge; secrets; lies.If you like psychological suspense, you should read this book. It's an engrossing read that will keep you entertained, and will keep you guessing. It's a book to be savoured because it's not very fast-paced, but more detailed and full of depth.I think the ending was perfect. I certainly didn't see it coming. With the many interesting characters and relationships in the book, it would lend itself well to a sequel. Thoroughly enjoyable and very well written.
review 2: Naomi Stone is kidnaped on he wedding night and wakes up chained to a bed in a house in the middle of nowhere. Over the next couple of weeks she learns why she is there and who her captor is.The story bounced back and forth between her days as a captive and the months prior leading up to her wedding. There were a few times I wanted to smack Naomi upside the head, I mean, when you tell your boyfriend that you promised God not to have sex until you are married and he proposes right then??? I enjoyed the fast paced ending, though it took a while to get there, but I found Naomi's sudden cunning to be not quite in character. less
