review 1: This isn’t a well-known series, and therefore I wasn't expecting much when I decided to try it out for my daughter. I liked the fact that the male protagonist is an older man, instead of the usual know-it-all or angsty teenage boy. Thought it would be a refreshing change to read about older men as boyfriends or spouses because they are infinitely more mature and sensible, yes?We have 17-year-old Julie taking on a class assignment to shadow a police department, specifically, a young police officer named Luke who works for her uncle, Oakland’s Chief of Police. Predictability, Julie develops a crush on Luke and the reader witnesses how she moons over him and even accidentally makes a fool of herself. For the rest of the series, you can more or less guess the direction the... more story takes from the titles alone. However, it did not make it less interesting for me to read how Luke gradually warms up to Julie and feels more for her by and by, and how Julie matures and balances the relationship dynamics. I seldom find romance books that convincingly reveal a relationship beyond the initial attraction and lust. However, in this series, I actually see a real relationship develop, surprisingly without physical intimacy involved. And right from the start, problems crop up, both big and small; the ugly side of each are revealed and tolerated, and compromises had to be made. Of course, there are the obligatory complications to spice things up (and also to stretch the story into eight books...), mainly in the form of a love triangle, Luke's hesitancy because of his cradle-snatcher status and profound disapproval from Julie’s uncle. Credit to the author for not being too predictable though, cos at some parts, I actually thought their yo-yo relationship would not survive! The Just a Little Series and Just a Little Sequel are worth reading, if not for anything but a relaxing and fun way to pass a rainy day. [Afternote : My daughter thought that the series is only so-so. Hmm….]
review 2: I really enjoyed this book, and the whole series. I read them all in about 3 days, they are great short reads. I do wish a little more had been explained in this last book, how is Derek doing being a single father? Why did Rebekah not want the baby? What about Matt, why did he really leave school, is he going back, did he move into the apartment?? I also would have liked to read a little bit more about Julie and "triggers" relationship did they get married? Have babies? Did she start her business? Over all I liked all of the books, I got the first 5 free on my kindle then I bought the rest of them. Thank you for offering them for free so I could get a taste of your writing! less
