review 1: i recieved an advanced copy for an honest review.the story was interesting but it took me a while to really get into it. i liked the idea of a race of super beings influencing the various mythologies on earth. i think the characters were a little one-toned and look forward to some character development in the next book especially for: katie (the girly-girl), dax (the jokester), and tanner (the oblivious boy next door). allora has the most dimension to her and i think the characters reacted realistically to the events happening to them considering they're 16 year olds. i think the secondary characters were only there when the teens needed answers and didnt feel real. the fighting scenes were action-packed and fun to read. i think the villains were stereotypical, kim the boy... more-snatcher felt a little rushed. i think the monsters were a good touch. im looking forward to reading the advancements in the second book because i think this story has a lot of potential.
review 2: This was a First Reads giveaway book. I found this to be a cute story for a YA audience. Allora is a stereo-typical teenage girl full of attitude and defiance. She has to deal with the mean girls at school, with the queen bee of them all being the girlfriend of the boy Allora has a crush on. Things start to get weird when Jennie (the Queen Bee) sabotages Allora's cheerleading tryout. Allora gets mad and suddenly her hands are on fire. From that point on Allora's world isn't anywhere close to normal. Allora and her friends have to help save not one, but two worlds with new abilities they didn't know they had. less
