review 1: An academically rigorous addition to the "true-book-crime" shelf. I found it chilling to see how rampant and flagrant book-theft from libraries was in during the 30s (and probably still is more common than one might hope, though libraries are loathe to admit it). I regret the loss of New York City's "Book Row," but less so with the unappetizing specter of a den of bibliothieves this book conjures.
