review 1: It was fun to read but in a way it is predictable. The plot is exciting and thrilling but as a book for children, it have too much violence and death. It was about a war though so it fits right. The idea that the whole dragonkind to go to war because of one dragon tribe's heirs fighting for the throne is unrealistic and absurd to me and it really diminish my overall enjoyment of the book. The ludicrousness of the situation is at times too much for me.The characters are simplistic and one dimensional. You could actually describe them with just a few choice words. Still, the interaction of the main characters are quite enjoyable even if the characters themselves are very uncomplicated. The book also has this rather peculiar mixture of childish treatment like of with the subjec... morets of friendship and family and the characterization of the dragons amidst the more dark and mature treatment and subjects of war and death and violence. Sometimes the combination feels a bit queer.Overall an enjoyable read and eye catching though not much noteworthy as literature.
review 2: This book started off disappointing, I immediately picked up on a remedial writing style, even for a child's novel. But it either got better or I stopped caring, because I was so interested in the plot and character that I couldn't put the book down for anything (I even skipped dinner to finish). The characters are all lovable (the heroes anyway) and even some of the antagonists get some of my love. One thing that still puts me off about this book is that every adult dragon seems to be incredibly violent, I get there is a war going on, but it's a little much. Really, every adult dragon we've met so far has had a concerning love for the violent and gory.I'm not deterred from reading The Lost Heir; in fact, I have it right next to me to get started as soon as I post this. less
