review 1: First, let me state that I did not finish...I stopped at 47%. Second, I loathe writing negative reviews. But there are a TON of errors in the spelling, grammar and word usage in this book...to the point that it was pretty distracting. The characters weren't nearly developed enough. The same with the plot. It really had a lot of promise but just fell flat for me. There is one scene where the (h) runs outside and ends up in a comprimising position in the middle of the parking lot on the (H)'s car. She refers to her attire as her jammies??? That's what my small children say? There is also references to a blanky?? It was a tough pill to swallow. I just couldn't get into the sex scenes or even like the characters when they acted so juvenile. It was a bit like watching 10 year o... morelds...just wrong on so many levels. I really wanted to like it but I just couldn't. Maybe if it is edited more thoroughly and the dialog made more mature I could download the updated file and try again.
review 2: Van provided a copy of the book in exchange for a brutaly honest opinion, so here goes. The book has potential but needs a through editorial review. The timeline was confusing at first, there was a flashback with no warning at the beginning, and it took me a while to catch on. The grammar was pretty good, but there were parts when commas were needed to clarify the thought and other times words were written without capitalization, like Thanksgiving and God mentions. I got a clear idea of what the danger issue was, but it was not well presented and resolved. The Siri situation was presented and not resolved and left me thinking what was her importance in the book. There were a lot of characters introduced in the book and it needs a better integration between all of them. Also, Nick's mom and dad, are they living together as a married couple? If so, why did his dad arrive in the middle of the Thanksgiving party, then tried to leave, and Nick made him stay? Why did Nick all of a sudden appear in Liz's hometown? When they separated in Chicago, she told him she had family issues to resolve, and we don't see what motivated him to come to the rescue. Nick behaves like a badass soldier, but he's only 22 y/o, not enough esperience IMO. The scene at the bar also bothered me, she supposedly bought the dress for an outing with Nick, but wore to go clubbing with Stacy. She gets drunk, Nick goes to pick her up and finds the dress slutty? GrrrWhat I liked about the book: Nick was a great character, I liked him, even with the alpha man attitude. The plot was good, and the father of the boyfriend being a mod boss was an intriguing plot twist, except it wasn't brought to conclusion. I saw Siri as a nerdy friend but she needs work and a better purpose in the book. I didn't like Stacy so much, but she had abusive issues and was a loyal friend to Liz. Liz was not well developed, but what I saw wasn't bad, just that you don't get a concrete idea on her.All in all, this book was stronger than other first attemps I have read, so with a good editorial revision, it could be a winner. less
