review 1: So... I am not into books about BDSM or D/s. This is the first book I've read exploring these themes in a serious manner.I'm really at a loss as to how to review this so first I want to apologize to Vanessa North for what is sure to be an appallingly shallow review.The writing - Top notch! I am so impressed by the writing. This is great prose, great characterization, great pacing, great arc, and great denouement. The story - I enjoyed the idea of a hurt man needing to surrender himself to someone in order to heal. I've never thought about grief and healing in this way before.The theme - I understand all of this a bit better, I think, and would be willing to read more books with this theme. I'm not ready to be paddled, but I am ready to read about paddling.Summary - Vanessa... more North can write! I'd recommend this to newbies to the genre like myself.

Moments of sadness cut through Oliver--who tries to remember this is a transaction. He doesn't wish to be loved by the man owning him. He loved Jeffrey--and has been celibate for the year since Jeffrey has passed. And yet, this Dom, this Dark Collector, seems to know exactly how to twist Oliver to draw out his pain and suffering and leave him feeling cleansed and satisfied, it's a weekend of healing for Oliver--a weekend to relinquish his grief. Which he does.I loved every second of it. It is a short book, but each word carries immense weight. The end is brilliant and all I could have hoped for. less
