review 1: This book was plain and simply fun. It was a joy to read through - Victoria employs just the right amount of flashbacks and current-time to peak interest. That, and the abilities and natures of each of the characters were unique and well done, and the story and world itself was compelling. I had some foundational issues with it early on, but the rest of the story more than made up for it. Highly recommend. review 2: I'm not a fan of superhero comics or movies, but I love this superhero book, because of Schwab's unique twist on the genre. I love that she emphasizes the human part of superhuman, and that, instead of coloring the hero and villain in black and white, she plays in the gray areas between the two extremes.
