review 1: I loved Vicious and was eager to read another story in this world. Unfortunately, this short story felt a bit lacking. Don't get me wrong, I found David's plight and character very interesting. The problem was the ending. Without giving anything away, this would have worked better as a prologue to Vicious than as its own short story. I understood the ending, but I could see someone who had never read Vicious leaving feeling annoyed and confused after finishing the story.
review 2: I really enjoyed this vignette, a taster, a setup if you will to the main book Vicious by V.E. Schwab that I would be reading next. The tone was brooding as suited the story and the story was short, interesting and set up a world that seems kinda interesting. I like the take that... more Schwab had on the superhero/comic book genre and I hope to get a deeper look in the full book. Good stuff!Onward to the next booK! less
