review 1: The beginning of this book is rather graphic and very disturbing. Cassie suffered some extreme trauma as the story begins to unfold. Once she is rescued by Jesse there seems to be somewhat of a lull--you have the feeling that another shoe is going to drop. I even felt at one point like she was going to wake up and her rescue would have been a dream she was using as a coping mechanism during her captivity--but it wasn't. The shoe does drop when Jesse and Cassie are confronted by one of her attackers. From this point on there's really no substance to the story. While I do believe that everyone has a soulmate and there can be love at first sight, I don't feel this book fails in providing the opportunity for the characters to truly develop those feelings. The characters jum... morep into the 'I love yous' and the sex almost within hours of meeting. I also feel that the book should have at least hinted at Cassie receiving some sort of counseling for everything she had experienced.Apparently there's another book that follows this one which follows Jesse's sister, Alexa, but I think I'll pass.
review 2: Don't know what to think of this book. I have never read a book where the guy is so emotional. Romantic yeah, but not so emotional. Jesse is about as bad as Cassie. Cassie's rape did not bother me, it was how it was handled. After being attacked as brutally as she was, she would not have been comfortable being touched by any guy right away. The falling in love right away did not bother, happens. When Willie broke into the house, I wanted to know what happened to the alarm system since Jesse was so fanatic about setting it. That was never addressed. I'm glad that the pregnancy worked out but I just have mixed feelings over all about this book. less
