review 1: I loved this book as much as the first. It was so entertaining to read more about Vicky and Joe’s life in El Hoyo and catch up on the village events. I enjoyed hearing about how Carmen –Bethina and Paco’s family were doing and about Geronimo’s new donkey. Their peace was shattered however by the arrival of the Ufarte family and some hilarious stories about them are actually laugh out loud, for example, Joe and Lola Ufarte’s thongs ( actually stolen by the cat) I nearly cried with laughter at Vicky’s description of Joe spraying the grape vines. The neighbours and their friends and relations enjoyed the sight as well. Well done Vicky for holding that melon!! There are some other memorable moments too. Another favourite for me was the time when every available spa... morece was occupied with lusty tomcats who fancied Little Tabs. However Joe seems preoccupied and what’s bothering him comes as a bit of a bombshell to her as she thought they were settled into village life. Vicky’s descriptions are wonderful and it’s obvious she has a very keen eye for the humour in each and every situation. I like the way each chapter has a heading and is accompanied with a recipe – mmm! There are also photos to delight the reader as well. Good to see updates on those delightful cats as well.
review 2: As a person that does not enjoy travel or new experiences, to the extent that I take the same vacation every year, I continue to be in awe of Vicky and Joe's intrepid spirit and continuing adventures living in a mountain village in Spain. It is like reading letters from old friends now, and I look forward to the next installment as they head out once again for foreign lands. Will be cooking some Spanish meals soon as well - adore the flavors of Spain! less
