review 1: I had known a little bit about Brian Epstein before reading this book. I went through a period in my life where I tried to gain as much knowledge about the Beatles as I could. So this was a nice reminder of their history and who can forget the Beatles are bigger than Jesus Christ comment. What I didn't know was about the personal history of Brian. Being an american I never knew about the Wilde laws as they call them in the book (I know Oscar Wilde's history but now I really need to do some research into the laws) and that doctors would actually prescribe medicine to try and curb homosexuality. Which I find quite humorous being in the present, but Tiwary does a fantastic job of transporting the reader back to the 60's and feeling the fear associated with it. And the illustr... moreations were just beyond, they were so beautiful. My favorite part in the book was the ending. The different versions where you're left with what could of been and what is. Just all across the board this was clearly a labor of love and was done so well.
review 2: This is certainly a compelling and well-drawn graphic novel. I learned a good bit about Brian Epstein's involvement with the Beatles. The narrative seemed a bit diffuse and directionless at times, hence the four stars, but it was entertaining, funny, and dramatic at many points. The discussion of Epstein's sexuality was also very interesting, most notably his constant desire for a long-term relationship...this conflicts with some of the non-fictional accounts I have heard, so I'd like to learn more about this aspect of the man. less
