review 1: This is my first of the Takhini series and yes i know it's a novella but I liked it a lot. Jim is known for being a workaholic and Damon his best friend knows he needs to relax. So for this years yearly challenge, he destroys Jim's phone and makes him take a vacation. But they both dont expect Lillie to play apart of anything. Lillie is a scared little bear...literally. Her bear isn't comfortable with huge crowds...so maybe Vegas wasn't the best choice...after an incident and Jim coming to the rescue. It starts a week long fling that sorta leads to more than they both expected. But what will happen when they have to uphold their duties? I really liked this and more than likely will be picking up some more of these books. .
review 2: Be careful what you wish for
... more. I made a comment the other day that I'd never read a bear shifter story. Next thing I have this novella in my inbox courtesy of the author. This is essentially a romance between Jim, a Grizzly shifter, big and aggressive but a teddy bear at heart and Lillie, a cute and cuddly brown bear shifter. Except her hair is as copper as the copper coin Jim competes for with his Wolf Shifter buddy Damon. The two meet at Vegas, Lillie busy working out a bucket list before heading off to start her new life. Jim is there with Damon for their annual coin competition which usually involves some extreme sports or in this case a motor bike ride. The story is essentially about how these two connect with some smoking hot smexy on the way. This was billed as erotic romance and appears less hard core than some I've read recently. A little language but not over the top and the smexy was hot without being in your face explicit. IMHO.For a short novella it did pretty well with character development and introducing me to Arend's Shifter Universe. The conflict was mild and easily resolved in the short length. I had no problems understanding the shifter concept. I think I read a Lora Leigh big cat shifter story a while back that was much more in your face but I haven't read much in what seems to be a fairly popular sub-genre.Over all I enjoyed the romance and the shifter peculiarities shown by the different characters. I'll certainly read more. less
