review 1: What can I say about Jack Stone? Well he is definitely an alpha male. He is on a quest to find his sister who has been kidnapped and is in what he believes to be a sex ring. Jack is traveling around the country to find his sister, but in the mean time he is rescuing anyone else who may be kidnapped and being treated as a sex slave. That's admirable. He is rough, tough and smart. I didn't care much for Jack Stone. First of all, why was he hitchhiking? Why didn't he have a car? I would think that his lack of transportation is making is more difficult for him to rescue anybody. He is dependent on women that he finds along the way. Another turn off for me was the fact that he was having unprotected sex with random women. Okay, I get that he is a suppose to be a wonderful... more sex-pert and dominate, but he is putting people's lives at risk by having sex with random ladies. Seems to me that sex is his way of paying these ladies. He had sex with the first lady who gave him a ride and sex with Lilly, who gave him shelter and probably with the next woman who gives him a ride. I would have enjoyed the story better if he had stayed with Lilly and hunted his sister from there. I felt bad for Lilly because I believe that she truly cared for Jack Stone. The word timber was used about 1000 times. What happened to the word wooden. I was thrown off at first by the use of the word timber to describe furniture. I have never heard anyone say timber floors. I've heard wooden floors. I don't know, I'm from the south so maybe I'm missing something.Anyway, I will not be continuing the series because I am a one woman kind of girl and I do not want to see Jack screwing others. This book just wasn't for me. I wouldn't say do not read it because most people love it.
review 2: I am not sure where this author is from, but I am guessing not the US. UK maybe. It is always a little distracting to me when an author writes a book based in the US, but uses phrases or wording commonly used in another country. Obviously, the exception to this is if it is character dialogue and specific to that character. But there were a few parts where I had to reread, thinking it was editing errors but quickly realizes that it was more likely how the author was used to speaking, if not from the US. All this really stood out when she used the term banknotes instead of dollars. When there is this shift in word flow, it makes me stop and remember what country the story is based in.I did like the book, but didn't love it. I want to find out if Jack finds his sister, but this is a series I would borrow rather than buy. Sadly, I do not think that will be possible so I will have to wait for the price to come down to buy the next one. This one was worth the $0.99, but I wouldn't pay the $2.99 for the next book. less
