review 1: An erotic short story that packs an emotional punch.I liked this story very much. Alice isn't a particularly likable character, but I thought the author did a great job of showing how Alice regrets being such a bitch in the past, even as she struggles to be a nicer person in the present. I thought it incredibly sad that Alice was so alone in the world, even though it was pretty much her own fault. I was surprised by how emotionally wrenching I found her plea to "pretend you love me." I wish I had gotten a better handle on Thomas. He just seems to be there for a no-strings-attached fuck, but I never really understood why he was willing to go to such lengths to be sweet and gentle with Alice. And I found the ending a little abrupt. I wanted more reassurance, I think, that Al... moreice would strive to be a better person and would find happiness. (I read more romance than erotica, lol) The erotic scenes were well done, but mostly I was impressed by the author's ability to make me care about Alice and the good, meaty depth of the story. I picked this story up as a freebie and it served its purpose well. I'll be checking out more stories from this author. 3.5 stars, rounded up to four.
review 2: When I first started reading this all I knew was that Alice had been mean to other people and now regretted it so she arranged an evening in the Manor. I expected a simple sex scene and was pleasantly surprised and moved to tears instead by the story. Have tissues on hand when you read this one as Ms Linger has found a way to pack a lot of emotion and depths of character in just a few pages. less

Definitely had me tearing up about halfway through. I wasn't fond of the ending, though. :|
