review 1: A 'thriller' in the "scientific discovery is going to destroy the world!" subgenre, this is Walter Fahy's first novel, and, surprisingly, not his last. I think his research consisted of reading "How To Write Screenplays That Sell" and watching "True Facts About the Mantis Shrimp" on Youtube. The characters consist of two Heroes, the Villain, and Everybody Else. In the third act there are not just one, but two, Ticking Clocks. Just to make sure you know who the Villain is, in the first act, in events totally unrelated to the plot, he murders a toddler. I haven't seen a more ham-fistedly-framed villain since _The Kite Runner_'s Neo-Nazi Taliban child rapist. I will not be reading the sequel.
review 2: Very enjoyable. I got this at the library on sale day, thinkin
... moreg it would be a quick fluff read. And it kind of sort of was. But it was filled with botany, and biology, and paleontology and many other ologies that capture my imagination. It followed the basic "last man surviving" theme of some books, but was unique. They nod their heads to Livingstone, to Stephen Jay Gould, to Darwin. Science is exacting and exciting in this book. I was very happy to hear that a sequel was in the works as of several years ago, so it is definitely on my list to find. less

Most definitely a 5* book, one hell of a tale. Getting straight into the sequel, Pandemonium.
