review 1: Interesting description of how the terrorist laws are used to jail people fighting for rights of animals, very sophisticated methods of economic sanctions visiting people on the boards of companies, going after underwriters and those making a market for the companies for stock.References to other animal rights authors and philosophers Australian Peter Singer, Arne Naess (deep ecology) Tom Regans legal advocacy of animals and Vandana Shiva's Eco-feminism.Book makes the argument that although some people think the fight against animal rights is economic, Potter makes the argument that there really is a bigger fear that it will not stop here at vegetarianism, but it will to where no-one will be able to have fur, eat meat and so on.
review 2: It's funny writin
... moreg a review on a book about surveillance without becoming paranoid when wanting to discuss allegiances.I liked this book. The writing was good and the story was exciting (and, of course, sad and depressing), but I'm not so sure about framing it within the sphere of constitutional rights. So many of the characters are uninterested in laws and rights, so what's the point? It seems a little dishonest to pose things in this way, especially after the trials are over and many of the sentences have been served. That said, it makes the book approachable, and something I would be able to give to my parents to read, but I'm not sure it opens the path to talking about issues outside the scope of government-sanctioned rights and their violation. less
