review 1: Thought provoking analysis of the pros and cons of our connectedness, with comparisons to similar points in history. This was a particularly timely read for me, as our kids just got iPhones and much of my work involves integrating technology into education. Maybe because I've already spent a lot of time thinking about the topic, some of the content was fairly obvious to me, but I was impressed nonetheless with a number of viewpoints I hadn't considered yet.I'd give it five stars except that ultimately the book falls a bit short and simplistic in terms of meaningful, specific suggestions to find a balance between our connected and disconnected lives. Still the analysis is strong and the historical comparisons are both insightful and entertaining. Thumb... mores up!
review 2: Between my career and my personal interests, I have an extensive relationship with technology, and I do a lot of thinking about it. This book helps immensely in analyzing one aspect of that relationship: the interaction with the rest of the world as mediated by our always-online technology. Providing a solid framework and numerous useful tools to discuss and ponder the relevant issues, this book is a home run for addressing a harried lifestyle. The author is less than reactionary, viewing technology as a necessary part of the new world, which helps if you aren't willing to throw your phone out with the bathwater. This book provided me with both specific inspiration and general enlightenment relating to my relationship with connective technology. I'll be using the tools here for a while to come. less

I liked how he used 7 philospheres to explain how technology relates to each of the seven he used.
