review 1: I couldn't claim it wasn't a good book but there was something truly wrong with the English translation. I didn't like the main character's weak personality and how he wasted precious chances throughout his life. I would have liked if the book pursued the life of his mother and sister. it narrates an important sector of world War and the identity conflict he suffered between being french or Arab. still I think it might have been better in french.
review 2: I'm crying. No surprising deaths or crazy moments at the end of this book, but I'm still crying. Maybe because I'm finished. WOW. The writing of Khadra is genius. Just perfect. ... morethis book. I felt like I lived Younes life. Everything is perfect about this book. Khadra is Algerian, but I loved how we discover in this book both side of the Algerian war as Younes is torn between both of them : the algerians and the black feet. less
