review 1: Tells the history of Israel through the lives of several of the paratroopers of the Six-Day War. I learned an immense amount about the start-up of the country of Israel, and all the differing communities and backgrounds that contributed to the ideas that governed the direction the government took. The leaping between the different characters a bit hard to follow, but the author gave a broad, compassionate treatment to the great variety of people he encountered. Insightful.
