“Finding Mr. Wrong” by Charlie Cochet

He’s nobody’s definition of Mr. Right—but that might make him perfect.

Matthew Hart is heir to the family fortune and owner of Hart & Home. When a near-death experience has him fretting over the future, he decides he needs a husband, and not just any husband—an appropriate man to protect the Hart legacy. The last thing Matthew expects is to cross paths with Jax Foster, his first love and the boy who crushed his heart when he disappeared.

Jax is unlikely to make Matthew’s list of suitable candidates. Bad boy, vagabond, deep in debt, with a father who can’t keep out of trouble, Jax has nothing to offer—except his heart and a second chance at the romance they never got to explore.

Matchmaking. It’s equal parts terrifying and exhilarating for the match-e. Rambling a list of desirable traits and desires and hoping the match-er gets it right is risky. What are the chances of success? How many failed attempts before the winner walks into the sunset holding hands with their happily ever after? Let’s find out….
Matthew thought he was content with his life until a brush with death had him re-evaluating things. Although he’s tried to convince himself he’s ‘just fine’ with his bachelor status…he’s not. He wants someone to come home to every night. He wants a partner to care for and to have someone care for him. Basically, he wants a man and he wants to keep him. But he’s running a company and far too busy to date, so he assigns his assistant to find him “Mr. Right”. Another important tidbit we discover during the matchmaking meeting is a piece of Matthew’s past. He gave his heart away many years ago and in return his first love broke his heart, abandoning him without a word one day. Which explains why he’s never pursued a relationship since. His assistant Adam is smart and resourceful and doesn’t disappoint with his sneaky matchmaking skills. Even though everything about Jax opposes Matthew’s dream man, he’s the best candidate. Why? Because he loves him, always has, and love trumps everything.

The story takes off quickly and never wavers. It’s steady and entertaining from start to finish. This is something I’ve come to rely on when I open a book by Mrs. Cochet. I enjoyed both Matthew and Jax, as well as the secondary characters. Especially Matthew’s assistant, Adam, who’s charming and hilarious. I felt the foreshadowing of a spin-off with Adam and I’m very much looking forward to it. I think his own potential bad boy is going to give him a run for his money! The cast was fairly small and easy to handle, allowing the reader to focus on the story. And what a good story it is!

I’m always drawn to second chance stories and I was thrilled when I realized this story was about two men reuniting. Not only was it about a couple of best friends brought back together after nearly two decades apart, but they were also first loves. *sigh* First love, second chances, and the complications of meshing two very different lives of two very different men produces this delightful tale. A bit of adrenaline surges into play and the heat factor was just enough in my opinion. When the shadows of Jax’s past threatening to destroy their fragile reconnection I was riveted to their story and couldn’t put it down. Jax wishes he could be enough for Matthew, that he could be his Mr. Right, but that’s just not him. He’s wrong for Matthew, at least according to that paper. But sometimes, Mr. Wrong is exactly….right.

A sugary sweet reconciliation. A lifelong addiction that paved an unfair and unjust life for a son with a massive heart. And a sprinkle of improbability here and there.

A young broken heart never fully healed because there’s only one person with the magic touch. If you enjoy the beauty of second chances and favor fluff over angst, you’ll want to make note of this exhilarating love connection.
