review 1: An analysis of a really fucking rough day. We've got Mr. Ordinary here, who it turns out is a North Korean sleeper agent. Meanwhile, he's been called back to the homeland, and the motives of everyone around him are suddenly called into question. And on top of that, his wife's spending a lot of time with really profoundly unlikable men in cheap motels. While the issues of ideology and history and war and espionage play their roles, as they doubtless would, they play second fiddle-- this isn't a treatise, it's a story of several characters, who are, as mentioned, having a really fucking rough day. And the end of the rough day, well, it took me a while to process how I felt about it, but I'll call it a damn fine ellipsis.
review 2: a surprising book. A literally one
... more-day novel told in the perspective of different characters, and how their personalities, past as well as the society they lived in relate to the present conditions. The early parts are a little bit draggy, and it might be slightly confusing to those without a basic knowledge of the Korean war and the South Korean democratization movement, but the touches of philosophy and a spy story made up for it.favourite quote: "Life is a continuous cycle of once terrifying things becoming normal." less

first 10 pages is bit boring but it gets better as you are getting into mind of characters

Meh. Needed more characterization. It was difficult to follow the character's motives.

Poorly translated. Probably a really good book in Korean but I couldn' finish it.

Very well written, and an excellent look inside modern South Korean life.

Just awful.
