Fushigi Yûgi: Genbu Kaiden
review 1: It's been a long ten years since this series first started being published but this volume makes the wait well worth it. Genbu Kaiden has always been Watase at her best and the conclusion features some of her strongest writing to date as all the plot threads come together. The art is beautiful (which almost goes without saying) and the characters memorable. I can only pray that this series gets an anime adaptation now that is has been complete because I would love to live this story and over again. The ending is bittersweet, as any fans of the original knew it had to be, and beautiful and perfect and cements this series as my favourite from Watase and my second favourite manga series of all time.

... moredn't have read this, considering just how many books I have to read... I gave in to temptation, though, knowing that manga books generally only take me half an hour to read. (This one only took me twenty minutes, actually).I've waited a really long time for this series to end. I knew how it was going to, but it didn't make the ending any less intense.I didn't really need much refreshing of this book. I think the memories have always been in my head. After all, Fushigi Yugi was the first manga series I ever read. The whole idea behind this series is a really good one and I feel it's really good at showcasing elements of Japanese culture. There wasn't as much humour in this book, but there were a few things that happened that made me smile. The ending made me hopeful as well as saddened me. There was a lot that was good about this book and I really want to read the final arc of the second priestess. I know the story there, too, but it would be great to meet the characters in that setting. If you're interested in manga, though, and like the look of this, I would suggest starting off with the first Fushigi Yugi book. It's one of those series definitely worth reading from the beginning. less
