review 1: I found this book short and sweet with creative and well done illustrations. I like how as the book went on more characters were introduced into the story with their own little background story. It's interesting to read about situations that are close to where I live, or in the same region. The book is about an apartment complex with a whole bunch of different people and personalities. They all come together in the foyer of an apartment during a shooting in Lebanon. As the shooting continues more neighbors start to show up in this foyer of a grandmother taking care of her grand children. While these neighbors are showing up the kids are worried about their parents who went to check other their other grandmother. The story goes on describing all the different characters and... more then the parents arriving safely back home. After that night, the family decides to move away to be safe. This book was interesting to read and I would recommend it to people who what to have more of a realistic view of different middle eastern countries and what people go through and how they help each other.
review 2: I'm growing very fond of autobiographies in graphic novel format. They tend to be really intimate. I don't know much about the history of Beirut and its wartimes, but this was still an engaging and sometimes very frightening book. The art was beautiful. I think the comparisons to Marjane Satrapi's Persepolis are justified, but A Game for Swallows is an important book in its own right. I would say that any time a person chooses to share their personal experiences on such a large scale as a published book, they are doing something very brave, and therefore their words are significant. I hope to read more of Ms Abirached's work in the future. less

There's nothing wrong with this book, it just wasn't for me. Had a Satrapi-an feel to the artwork.

Very Persepolis-y but I liked the art and the story, even though it was sad.

Reminiscent of Persepolis without the depth.
