review 1: This book was a good book about friendship and how it is irreplaceable. Pearl and Charlie are complete opposites that are inseparable. Pearl is loud, short, talks to much, adventurous, brave, and noisy. Charlie is quiet, shy, reserved, does not talk, likes to stay in his comfort zone, and is scared of everything. Together these two complete each other. It is a great book to read for fun in the classroom.
review 2: It is often said that friends, and sometimes husbands and wives, find they connect with opposites. This story is about just that, why Pearl Barley and Charlie Parsley are two great friends who are quite different from each other. Pearl is loud and daring and loves, as the book tells, “to run amok”. Charlie is quiet and conservative and very
... more shy, likes to “be safe and sound”. Aaron Blabey’s art fills the pages with giggles as he “shows” the words written about these friends. For example, when we see that Pearl is very loud, the illustration shows her playing a drum (really a saucepot). And when we learn that Charlie is very quiet, he is shown to be reading a book titled “The Benefits of Wearing Felt” (giggle, giggle). It’s also delightful to see how these friends compliment each other. When Pearl gets so tired of ‘running amok’, Charlie tucks her into bed with a mug of warm milk. And when Charlie feels lonely, Pearl assures him she “thinks he’s great.” Fun book about friendship! less

This is such a cute book about friendship and how our differences can be what make us so compatible.

Very pretty pictures but that's it -- it's a showcase for the illustrator's work.
