review 1: This was a lovely book that surprised me. I thought the focus would be a lot more on the drag elements but instead this book revolved around the abuse Steven suffered and dealing with how he sees BDSM. This book really drew me in and I just couldn't put it down. It was interesting how various factors not just a relationship going badly wrong the the attempts to fix what was broken through therapy had Steven twisted up. Don was also a great character in that he wasn't perfect as a Dom and had his own problems to deal with. Gabriel also added an interesting twist as a new overexcited puppy ready to dive into a world Steven sees as dangerous. Putting the two together provided a very different version of the BDSM world that I liked looking at. This really was wonderful ... moreand I look forward to rereading it in the future.
review 2: This was one of those reads, that was kind of intense, but really didn’t feel that way. Steven returns to Australia after running away from his abusive Master only to meet Don. While the abuse Steven suffered was severe, both mentally and physically, the reader is given just enough glimpse to know what went down without it being gratuitous. This book was character driven. The main focus being Steven’s internal struggle trying to wrestle through what he has sworn off and what he actually wants. Finding the truth in it, and finding a balance.The characters here are likable. They have chemistry. And they are real – well, as real as a Stevie Nicks drag queen can be. ;)I enjoyed this, and for someone who personally has huge issues with “slave terminology” I think that says a lot. less
