review 1: I's like to start off saying that after reading the back of the book I knew that this book was going to be good, and unlike any other murder mystery I have read. The back of the book says, "And when the truth finally comes out, it's more shocking than anyone could have imagined..." which lead me to believe the murderer would be the last person you would think it would be. Before reading the first chapter I made a prediction that Anna probably murdered Elise because that would be the most unexpected murderer and that would be the most "shocking truth". It turned out I was right! The hints were there with Anna and Elise's lesbian relationship/friendship. Elise constantly kissed Anna on her shoulder and wrapped herself around Anna which is unusual for people who are just frie... morends. Also, before Anna's mother's funeral Anna let Elise undress, shower and dress her without hesitation. And after Anna's mother's funeral they kissed in the dark on Anna's bed. There were other hints that Anna killed Elise also. During one of Anna's flashbacks Anna shows us that she HAD suspected the love affair between Elise and Tate when Elise claims a necklace that was found in Tate's jean pocket then Anna shakes with fury after realizing the affair that was happening behind her back. Another hint was when Elise and Anna talked about how they would like to die and on page 280 Elise said, "A knife, I guess. Slice my wrists, bleed out all over the new cream carpets. Give my mom something to complain about." Anna loved Elise and probably wanted Elise to die in the way she wanted, by being stabbed 13 times and bleeding on carpet. And when Anna is attacked in the prison she looks at her opponent lying on the floor and she thinks "...I can't hear anything but my own drumming heartbeat and the dull thud of bone on tile as her head cracks back, blood spilling on the pale floor like blossoms in the snow. It's almost beautiful..." page 242. That's not a normal thought! I love when Anna is at Elise's grave and she takes out the missing bloody necklace that was on Elise's dead body and she says "I win." That was the epic moment of truth! I really like how in the last chapter it talks about the hour or so before Anna killed Elise and how Anna had caught Elise and Tate having sex. I wished that there was a chapter on the moments before Anna killed Elise, how she planted the "break-in" and how she hid Elise's bloody necklace from everyone while she was in and out of a jail and a courtroom for months. I was also hoping for a chapter on Anna's life after she is found "NOT guilty". Did she end up with the cute guy Lee? Did she move back in with her father and start college? The one annoying thing was that throughout this book there were words missing from sentences and spelling errors, the editor should have done a better job! This book was very entertaining and kept my anticipation and attention all the way up to the end.
review 2: This book is totally a combination of Amanda Know, Natalee Halloway, and Gone Girl all rolled into one book. The beginning is pretty great and it really does build up in a great way. The problem with the second half though is that it's just a lot of filler. You can almost skim the second half of the book because literally nothing new or important happens at all. I would say read it you miss Gone Girl and it's a fast read if that is something you want. less
