Historical fiction fans! Let’s talk about some great titles from 2017 and a sneak peek at what’s coming next from America’s First Daughter authors Stephanie Dray and Laura Kamoie:
First, mark your calendars for April 3, 2018, when the next book from Stephanie Dray and Laura Kamoie hits your local bookstore shelves! My Dear Hamilton centers on Eliza Schuyler Hamilton, the “wife, widow, and warrior in Alexander Hamilton’s question for a more perfect union.”
Readers interested in historical fiction set during the First and Second World Wars hopefully didn’t miss two of 2017’s favorite titles: Kate Quinn’s The Alice Network, which alternates between 1915 and the life of Eve Gardiner, recruited as a spy for the real-life Alice Network operating in France, and 1947, when American Charlie St. Claire goes in search of her much-beloved cousin Rose, who disappeared in Nazi-occupied France in World War II. Jessica Shattuck’s The Women in the Castle is set at the end of World War II in a crumbling Bavarian castle that played host to high society during the war, and tells the stories of three widows who are bound together by their families’ resistance to Nazi occupation. Look for The Women in the Castle in paperback on January 2, 2018.
If Americana is more your genre, then look no further than Elise Hooper’s The Other Alcott and Sarah Miller’s Caroline. The Other Alcott takes us into the imagined life of May, Louisa’s youngest sister and artist in her own right, who takes issue with the representation of her as Amy March in Louisa May’s Little Women. Caroline, conversely, takes us into the world of Ma from Laura Ingalls Wilder’s Little House books, in a book authorized by the Little House Heritage Trust. Both The Other Alcott and Caroline are available now, in paperback and hardcover, respectively.
