“Horseman, Pass By”

I am a total Larry McMurtry fan.  My girlfriend got me into the Lonesome Dove series a bit back, having read Lonesome Dove and Comanche Moon I had to grab this when I saw it on the goodwill shelf.

I was doing a regular trip to my local Goodwill and while scanning the book titles, I always go to the books right away, I’d seen a title jump right out at me.  “Horseman, Pass By” by my favorite western author.  I nabbed it right away and finally got a chance to sit down and read it this month.

This beauty of a book takes place in the 1950’s, the shifting point between the old west and the new modern world.  A young boy, seventeen years old,  Lonnie lives on his grandfather’s cattle ranch, working the range with many a hired on hand and regulars.  You learn the lives of these cattle men and ranch hands, the family troubles on the ranch and the end of it all.

This book was a really rad read, and had bits in the story that I totally didn’t see coming.  It’s an easy read and I got it done in a couple of weeks.

If you see this book around or can get it real cheap then grab it and give a read.  It’s a beautiful portrait of a disappearing world.
