review 1: I made it about 1/4 through this 1000+ page book. I have no idea why critics gave it such rave reviews- probably because it's so good at going on and on (and on) about the most minor things including the esoteric philosophizing of a 10 year old boy. I might be more into this book if it was about 1/5 the length that it is because the overarching plot is interesting but I guess I just miss the point of all the other STUFF in the remaining 900 pages.
review 2: Unfortunately, I'm going to have to take this book back to the used book store where i got it from. Even though this has potential of being an exciting read, the prose was bland like a rice cake, there was no passion or feeling for humanity and i didn't feel any emotion at all towards the characters (I've
... morenever felt anything from childhood angst stories and this was no exception). Believe me the length didn't scare me in matter of fact that's what pulled me towards this book. I just can't recommend this book. less
