review 1: A formulaic 'quest for a religious artefact' thriller that takes the two protagonists on a whirlwind tour of Middle East countries, seemingly without eating, sleeping or a change of clothes. At least that's what it seemed like to me. I felt cheated at the end when one of the goodies turned out to be a baddie, hence only the three stars. There's been a rash of these kind of books since The Da Vinci Code. Dan Brown has a lot to answer for.
review 2: I liked the history and the plot line. I liked the character development and the twists that were unexpected. I didn't like the questions left ... it seemed as though the author saw that the story needed to end and the epilogue was kind of a throwaway that didn't answer any of the questions. I also was on board to ... morereally liking this book until there seemed to be an insertion of American political ideology in the motivation of the New Covenant and a characterization of the Christian right that is greatly biased. less
