review 1: I've greatly enjoyed this series.... until this book. The characters were the least interesting. Che with her raging incompetence and the loyalty divided Thalric plays a key part, with a little romance between them. Totho is back with his strange love for Che..... then that is about it.... no one else is in this book.Very few other characters are introduced with any character development.This book does read like a stand alone novel, which can be nice. But the first half bored me to death.
review 2: In this book, number 5 in the Shadows of the Apt series) we learn more about the history of the world, and the various Kinden. We also see the developing relationship between Thalric and Cheerwell Maker, and the degradation of others.With so many of the characters wi... moreth which we began, dead, it's important to see the effect of the survivors, and the identity of Che's 'ghost'. There will be more to see about that, I am sure! An excellent book, but anyone who reads it will have to have read the previous ones in the series - or they will get nothing out of it. less
