review 1: This is a review of the first book only. I will edit as I read the rest of the books.I received a copy of this book free through the Goodreads first-reads giveaway program. Overall, I enjoyed this book. It is a young adult, romantic novel with a fantasy/mythological twist. I enjoyed the beginning, where we get to know the different characters and the plot begins to unfold. The plot itself is a fun twist on an old genre. However, as the book wore on, the main character started to grate on me, with her disbelief of what was happening around her, her failure to pick up on some pretty heavy-handed foreshadowing, and, well, something else that I can't quite put my finger on. It might, perhaps have been a result of her age, as I'm not exactly a young adult anymore and I probabl... morey can't completely put myself in that mindset. Maybe that she wasn't more careful or leery of others? Naivete? I'm not sure.I will also say that I was able to figure out some of the plot twists ahead of time, which is usually not my forte. As I said above, there was some pretty heavy-handed foreshadowing. At the same time, though I feared that I had figured out all the plot twists, I shouldn't have worried at all. The ending still caught me off-guards in several ways. And it was exciting enough and interesting enough to make me want to jump into the second book right away.Overall, I found it an enjoyable read with some slow points towards the middle of the book.
review 2: *I received this boxed set through a giveaway from Goodreads.I have to say that I loved this series. It was a new take on the Persephone Hades myths. Not just the myths surrounding their marriage, but what happens after. The story of Henry and Kate is emotional and bumpy at best, but so worth it. I loved watching the two of them work through their insecurities to find each other. The story included jealousy, adultery, love, and mortal danger. What more could you want from a book series? At the end of the trilogy, my first thought was, "There has to be more!" What happens to James? How do they find replacements for the goddesses who've faded or been removed from the council? I have so many questions!!!The Goddess Legacy answers so many questions about the timeline before Goddess Test begins. So much character development and plot points have led the gods to the point where Henry and Kate's story begins. I loved seeing the pre-Kate council. It answered so many questions! In all, I loved this series. It was well written; the plot was well thought out and engrossing. My favorite part about the series is that I can feel comfortable having my advanced reader 11 year-old read the story too. So many books are written for her reading level but well above her emotional level. Amiee Carter found that happy place where the two meet and gave me a wonderful series to share with my daughter. less
