review 1: Ya, I really didn't care for this one. Was I surprised by the revelation of who the perp was? Yes and no. It certainly wasn't my first pick on who I thought it was but I wasn't like "Oh wow!" or anything. I guess I just wasn't excited about the book so when it was revealed, it was like "Oh okay". I didn't care about any of the characters and didn't care what happened to them. Overall, the book was pretty much predictable. I wasn't disappointed by the ending since the rest of the book was just as dull.By the way, an analgesic isn't used to make someone sleep but It would burn their tummy keeping them wide awake. Analgesic is a pain med.
review 2: This is the second AK Alexander book I've read in the last few months. They're not highbrow or complicated, and I di... mored figure out who the killer was a little over halfway through. It was short enough for me to read in a couple of sittings in one day so it's not a book that will last and last.But what this book are about is a good old fashioned thrill. And it certainly delivered on that. It had some fairly interesting things to say on media intrusion and witch-hunts that, while they aren't new are relevant and good to see in a piece of fiction. They also ground a story that could seem pretty far-fetched at times.That was particularly true of the final few chapters. What I think was intended as a thrilling climax felt more like the overblown finale to a not very good slasher movie. A fun little bit of escapism, as long as you don't think about it too hard. less
