review 1: Really loved this book even though I have never heard of Palisades Park outside of the song and have never seen the Atlantic Ocean from the Eatern Seaboard. But it was a great choice full of realistic characters full of love, betrayal, ambition, loyalty, and of course nostalgia. I do have to say I greatly disagreed with Toni's career choice!!! I highly recommend this book to my Goodread friends who have or still live in the New York, New Jersey area! If this had been about San Francisco's old "Playland at the Beach" I would have been in tears at the end!
review 2: Really more a 3 1/2-3/4 stars, but I did enjoy it. I think I connected more with Honolulu, my favorite of the author's books. I think if you grew up in NJ, you would definitely appreciate this book... more. As is typical of his sweeping novels, the author captured the social and political climates well as the book progressed. I felt I could smell, taste, hear and feel the sights and sounds of the midway. less
