review 1: I liked the concept of this more than I liked the outcome. It’s about two young runaways from slavery in 1760, Ben and Graham, who after electrical experiments of Benjamin Franklin’s evil son, become superheroes, without having that vocabulary. Not only are the main characters lacking that verbal component, but the illustrations are lacking in clarity. I read this book because it was on the shelf at my public library. My library also has volume 2, but based on this one, I think I have other books to read...

The series will move into the American Revolution, so I'm anxious to see how they blend real history with this fantasy element. The storytelling is kind of disjointed and quite hard to follow, which is why it didn't rate higher, and I think this may be a problem for students who are not strong readers. less
