The Sentinels
review 1: First this is a great start to an intriguing and cleverly written series. I thought the characters were absolutely incredible and the subject or storyline was incredible. However this was not my kind of book. For me it was hard to get into and I was not interested at all. I couldn't relate to Serra the sex goddess or Fane the bodyguard who hides behind his charge Callie. I just thought it was not for me.
review 2: I had this on my TBR list because I liked the idea of the Sentinels and it's set in my hometown. But I had a lot of issues with the book.First of all, Duncan is a sexual harassment suit waiting to happen. I don't believe that these characters would ever have gotten together given the way they're portrayed at the beginning. Just because he acknowledges
... more his tactlessness doesn't make it ok. He does get better as the story goes on though. Also, while I'm no expert, I don't think some of the police procedural details ring true. Duncan should have been an FBI agent, not a local cop if he was going to run around to all those different cities. And I'm pretty sure the coroner is a doctor, not a cop, so Frank should have been a CSI for his backstory to make sense.Despite all that, I did think the world was interesting. A lot of good supporting characters get introduced toward the end, so there's potential for the rest of the series. I may try the next one and see if it gets better, but I'm not in a big hurry. less
