review 1: I totally loved this book, I wanted more, didn't want it to end, wanted the subplot to develop a bit more. I loved how the island's founder's painting played a large role in the story. Loved how it was a take on King Lear and full of tragedy and death that made me cry over and over and over but was good for me. I only didn't love how self-important the main character seemed at times, like no one else in her family mattered like she did.
review 2: Really, I rate this one as a 3.5. It's the story of generations of lobster fishermen (and woman)within one family on a small island claimed alternately by Canada and the U.S. It's focus is on the current outgoing patriarch and his daughter who seeks out the water and fishing from a young age. I take it half a star d
... moreown from a 4 for two reasons. I felt it took a while to get into which may be because it came highly recommended and thus I had very high expectations. I also got tired of hearing about the original patriarch of the family which the author I felt over-saturated the book with. Despite my complaints, I would still recommend this one. less

This was pretty awesome but I'm pretty sure I'm giving it an extra star because mmmmm, lobster.

Very suspenseful. Interesting lawless atmosphere and mixture of mysticism.
