Let it snow

Book: Let it snow by John Green, Maureen Johnson and Lauren Myracle

Genre: Young Adult Fiction, Romance

This book has been on my TBR page since last year, but when I started this blog last month I decided to add it to my “Holiday” reads. It was also perfect that it matched one of the challenges I have for the Holiday AdventureAThon. That was like hitting two birds in one stone!

Let it snow is a collaboration of three holiday romances from a trio of today’s bestselling authors(not my words, it was written at the back of the book)

An ill-timed storm on Christmas Eve buries the residents of Gracetown under multiple feet of snow and causes quite a bit of chaos. Does start the intertwined stories of each of the author’s protagonists. Let us start with :

The Jubilee Express by Maureen Johnson

This story will introduce you to a 16 year old girl named Jubilee Dougal and her somewhat pretentious way of introducing herself. Jubilee is looking forward to spending Christmas Eve with her boyfriend Noah, but an unintentional incident caused by her parents changed the course of her day and she finds herself aboard a train going Florida to stay with her grandparents for the holiday. Sadly, an ill-time storm caused the train to stop just by Gracetown. Realizing the fact that they’ll be stranded until morning she decided to venture out to go to a nearby Waffle House where she met Stuart who will offer her help in more ways than one.

A Cheertastic Christmas Miracle by John Green

Meanwhile in Gracetown, Tobin and his friends, the Duke and JP were having a James Bond movie marathon when their friend Keun, who works at the Waffle House , calls to ask for help about some sort of a Cheertastic Christmas Miracle including some beautiful cheerleaders. The trio then set out on a race to the Waffle House not knowing that the trip will change the course of their friendship.

The Patron Saint of Pigs

On the other side of town a girl name Addie is dealing with a personal crisis connected to a cheating event that she caused which eventually led to her breaking up with her boyfriend Jed. After a week, Addie decided to reconnect with Jed and invited him to meet up and talk on Christmas Eve, but Jed didn’t appear. Instead of feeling sad by herself, she decided to call her best friends Dorrie and Tegan. Her attempt to discuss to her friends about her crisis led to the talk about her being super self-absorb. To prove that she wasn’t, she offered to help Tegan with her dream pet Gabriel, a teacup pig, not knowing that the pig will lead her to the very change her friends hopes she do.

Wow. That was a long ramble. I hope you guys are still with me. Now for my thoughts. I honestly didn’t like the start of the first story. I do think that Jubilee is pretentious. Well at least she is aware of it. Going to the second story by John Green, I was hoping it’ll be good. It was a whirlwind of mishaps that is quite entertaining but not something that I would like to read again. The last story though. I don’t quite like it. I can’t pin point the reason why, but I remember rolling my eyes at Addie a couple of times, and randomly mumble, “Ugh. Teens.”. I felt old. Hahaha. But jokes aside, the only thing I liked about the third story was the last chapters when the characters from the two previous stories made their appearance.

Overall, I am glad I read this book. Would I read it again? Probably not. Would I suggest it to anyone? It depends. If you want to read sappy, humorous and occasionally ironic book for the holiday, I will recommend this one for you. As for me, I think I’ll search more books by Maureen Johnson, I like her humor.

Anyway, Happy Holidays guys! Thank you for reading my book reviews. Have a great day and as always, I’ll talk to you on my next blog.
